The Childhood Development after Cochlear Implantation Study (CDaCI) is a multicenter, observational study of a national cohort comprised of children with cochlear implants (CI) and children in the same age range who have normal hearing NH. Between 11/1/02 and 12/31/04, 188 CI and 97 NH children were enrolled from 6 U.S. clinical centers and 2 pre-schools. The purpose of the CDaCI is to identify factors that influence language learning across multiple domains, including oral language development, auditory performance, psychosocial functioning and quality of life.
This study will:
- Track a child's development of spoken language and recognition of speech sounds
- Monitor a child's development of attention, problem solving, and social skills
- Examine the communication interactions between parent and child
